A channel-profile stainless tube used as a top rail on glass balustrade systems or as a standalone architectural handrail. The slot profile accepts glass panel edges cleanly, making it the natural choice where a handrail sits above a glass infill run.

From first enquiry to signed-off balustrade — here’s what a typical modular project looks like when you work with SWR.
UK building regulations (Approved Document K) require handrails on stairs to be between 900mm and 1,000mm above the pitch line, and between 900mm and 1,100mm above landings and ramps. All SWR wall-mounted kits are supplied to be installed within these limits.
Approved Document K requires circular handrail profiles to be between 32mm and 50mm in diameter to be considered graspable. SWR supplies wall-mounted kits in [32mm / 40mm / 50mm] — specify your preference at quote stage.
For domestic staircases, a handrail is required on at least one side where there are two or more risers. Both sides are required in public buildings and where the stair width exceeds [1,000mm]. Building Control interpretation can vary — for new builds, confirm with your inspector.
Yes. For sheltered external applications, 304-grade stainless is suitable. For exposed outdoor settings, coastal locations or poolside use, we recommend 316 marine-grade stainless for long-term corrosion resistance.
A slotted handrail has a channel running along its length, designed to accept the edge of a glass panel. It’s used as the top rail on glass balustrade systems where a clean, integrated finish is required. A standard round tube is used as a standalone wall-mounted handrail or as a balustrade top rail without glass infill.
