Not every project fits a standard system. SWR’s specialist range covers four purpose-built solutions — wind protection balustrades, key clamp railing systems, protective screens and perforated panel infill — each designed for a specific application where standard wire, glass or modular systems aren’t the right answer. BS 6180 compliant where applicable. Supplied from our South East base, nationwide.
SWR’s specialist systems exist because some projects have requirements that sit outside the standard balustrade brief — a terrace that needs wind protection without losing the view, a commercial site that needs a robust railing fast, a building facade that needs screening. Each system below is a direct answer to one of those requirements.
Wind protection balustrade systems for elevated terraces, roof gardens and coastal balconies where wind exposure makes the space unusable without proper screening.
Key clamp railing systems for warehouses, industrial facilities, commercial staircases and anywhere a robust, fast-to-install barrier is needed without the cost of a premium system.
Protective screen systems for plant areas, rooftop equipment, machinery guarding and any application where a solid barrier is needed rather than an open infill.
Perforated panel infill within a stainless modular post frame — a semi-opaque, decorative option for staircases, facades and garden settings where wire or glass isn’t the right aesthetic.

Each of the three systems below is a complete, modular product set designed for a specific application — built to your spec, fully matched and priced as one. Pick the one that fits your project.
GLASS/PANEL INFILL · AISI 304/316 · COASTAL GRADE
A balustrade system built specifically to reduce wind exposure on elevated or coastal outdoor spaces — without blocking the view or the light. Glass or solid panel infill within a stainless post frame, sized and positioned to act as a wind break where it’s needed most.
NO WELDING · HOT-DIP GALVANISED · RECONFIGURABLE
Malleable iron fittings clamped onto standard stainless or galvanised tube — assembled on site with a hex key, no welding, no specialist trades. A modular railing system that goes up quickly and can be reconfigured just as easily. Available in hot-dip galvanised, powder coat or bare finish. Compliant with UK building regulations when correctly specified.
SOLID/SEMI-SOLID INFILL · AISI 304/316 · PRIVACY GRADE
Solid or semi-solid stainless screen panels within a post frame — designed to provide a physical barrier where open infill won’t do the job. Used on commercial rooftops to screen plant and equipment, in industrial settings to guard machinery, and in public buildings where a solid barrier is a safety or planning requirement. Bespoke panel sizing available to suit non-standard openings.
STAINLESS/MILD STEEL · PUNCHED PANEL · CUSTOM PATTERNS
Stainless or mild steel panels with a punched perforation pattern, set within SWR’s standard modular post frame. Semi-opaque — more privacy and wind resistance than wire, more light and air than a solid panel. Perforation patterns available in a range of open areas depending on the level of screening required. Powder coat finish available across the full RAL range.
SWR’s specialist systems are designed and supplied to meet the structural and compliance requirements of each specific application. Where BS 6180 applies — barrier heights, load ratings, fixing requirements — all systems are specified accordingly. For applications outside standard building regs (industrial guarding, plant screening, architectural features), full specification documentation is provided with every order.

Addenbrookes Hospital required a large-scale balustrade solution that could improve safety while fitting neatly into a busy healthcare setting.
If your outdoor space is exposed to wind — typically an elevated terrace, roof garden, coastal balcony or hillside property — and a standard open balustrade leaves the space uncomfortable or unusable in moderate wind conditions, a wind protection system is worth specifying. The difference is in the infill: rather than wire or open panels, the system uses glass or solid panels positioned to act as a wind break. You still get the barrier compliance of a standard balustrade, plus meaningful wind reduction.
Yes, when correctly specified. Key clamp systems can meet the height, load and infill spacing requirements of BS 6180 and Approved Document K. Post spacing, tube size and fitting selection all affect the structural performance of the system — SWR supplies full specification documentation with every order to support Building Control sign-off.
Yes. Panel dimensions are bespoke to your post spacing and opening size. Perforation pattern and open area percentage can also be specified to suit your requirements — from a fine pattern with high solid area (more privacy, more wind resistance) to a coarser pattern with a higher open area (more light, more air movement).
Key clamp: hot-dip galvanised, powder coat or bare. Perforated panels: powder coat across the full RAL range, or mill finish. Protective screens: powder coat or stainless. Wind protection systems: satin stainless as standard, 304 or 316 grade to suit the environment.
