SWR’s Wind Shield aluminium channel system combines a hard-wearing structure with a slim-line, elegant design, tough enough for exposed terraces and coastal balconies, refined enough to stand as an eye-catching balustrade or room partition in its own right.
The Wind Shield system is supplied as a complete aluminium channel set with your choice of glass specification and finish. Drainage holes and optional stainless steel top cover included. All components pre-matched to your glass thickness and run length.

ALUMINIUM CHANNEL · WIND RESISTANT · INDOOR/OUTDOOR
A balustrade system built specifically to reduce wind exposure on elevated or coastal outdoor spaces, without blocking the view or the light. Glass or solid panel infill within a stainless post frame, sized and positioned to act as a wind break where it’s needed most.
MALLEABLE IRON · NO WELDING · FAST ASSEMBLY
Malleable iron fittings clamped onto standard stainless or galvanised tube, assembled on site with a hex key, no welding, no specialist trades. A modular railing system that goes up quickly and can be reconfigured just as easily. Available in hot-dip galvanised, powder coat or bare finish. Tested and suitable for use across a wide range of commercial and industrial applications.
SOLID PANEL · STAINLESS OR MILD STEEL · BESPOKE SIZING
Solid or semi-solid stainless screen panels within a post frame, designed to provide a physical barrier where open infill won’t do the job. Used on commercial rooftops to screen plant and equipment, in industrial settings to guard machinery, and in public buildings where a solid barrier is a safety or planning requirement. Bespoke panel sizing available to suit non-standard openings.
PERFORATED STEEL · SEMI-OPAQUE · POWDER COAT FINISH
Stainless or mild steel panels with a punched perforation pattern, set within SWR’s standard modular post frame. Semi-opaque, offering more privacy and wind resistance than wire, more light and air than a solid panel. Perforation patterns available in a range of open areas depending on the level of screening required. Powder coat finish available across the full RAL range.
The Wind Shield aluminium channel system is designed and tested to deliver certified structural performance for both fall protection and wind shield applications. Addenbrookes Hospital required a large-scale balustrade solution that could improve safety while fitting neatly into a busy healthcare setting.
The Wind Shield is a tough aluminium channel system that holds laminated safety glass panels — either 2×8mm or 2×10mm tempered glazed units — in a slim-line, elegant profile. The channel is fixed to the floor or structure, the glass panels slot in, and the result is a clean, hard-wearing barrier that provides wind protection, fall protection or both depending on the glass height specified. An optional stainless steel top cover finishes the system for a premium look.
When used as a balustrade with fall protection, the Wind Shield achieves a maximum glass height of 1,545mm at a 1.5kN rail load. When used as a ground floor wind shield only — where fall protection is not required — the glass height can extend up to 2,645mm. Confirm your application at quote stage and we’ll specify the correct glass height and configuration.

The Wind Shield is versatile enough to function as a room partition as well as an exterior wind protection system — its slim-line, elegant design makes it suitable for interior commercial and domestic applications. Glass height and finish can be specified to suit the interior design requirements of the space.
The Wind Shield uses laminated safety glass — either 2×8mm tempered or 2×10mm tempered glazed units. For glass thicknesses between 12mm and 21.52mm. Laminated glass is the correct specification for wind shield applications as it remains in place if broken, unlike single-pane toughened glass.
