A great way to add a modern touch to indoor or outdoor locations, without core-drilling into your floor. Wall-mounted wire systems fix directly to the wall surface using easy-to-fit terminals suited to a range of substrates, from interior wooden staircases to outdoor concrete. Marine-grade stainless steel throughout. Hard-wearing, low maintenance and built to last.
A typical wall-mounted wire set includes the following components, priced and documented for installation. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach — send us your design specifications and we’ll recommend the best components to create the installation you want.
Xmm 316-grade marine stainless wire, supplied pre-cut to your run length plus a Xmm tensioning allowance.
Easy-to-fit wall terminals suitable for timber, masonry and concrete surfaces. Indoor and outdoor variants available.
Threaded stud and barrel tensioner system. Tensioned top and bottom, adjustable after installation.
Slotted or round stainless top rail. Accepts wire top ends cleanly for a neat, considered finish.
Appropriate fixings for your wall substrate — confirmed at specification stage.
Tensioning tool, full installation drawings (PDF + DWG), and a printed quick-reference card.
An interactive tool to design your wall-mounted wire system — choose wire orientation, run length, terminal style and top rail, with a fully costed PDF quote to send to your installer or builder.
Used by self-builders, architects and main contractors who want to firm up the spec before talking to our team.
Each of the four systems below is a complete product on its own, designed for a specific application, with its own spec, install method and price band. Pick the one that fits your project.
4mm · 100mm centres · post-mounted
Eight to ten parallel stainless wires running between square or round stainless posts. The classic specification, used on the majority of staircase and terrace projects.
4MM · 100MM CENTRES · TOP & BOTTOM RAIL
Vertical stainless wire infill between top and bottom rails. A clean, contemporary alternative to horizontal wire, suited to projects where a vertical line is preferred.
4mm · side-fixed · stair stringers
Stainless wire fixed directly to the wall or stair stringer, with no posts in front of the run. Slimmest visual profile of the four systems and a great retrofit option.
4mm · diy-friendly · made to measure
Easy to cut to length, pre-tensioned stainless wire kits for self-builders fitting their own balustrade. Includes wire, tensioners, posts and full installation guide. Quick despatch.
Every wire balustrade we supply is engineered to comply with BS 6180:2011 (barriers in and about buildings) and Approved Document K. Tension calculations are project-specific and signed off before fabrication.

Wire Balustrade Installation Guide
Pricing Guide For Wire Balustrade
One of SWR’s most ambitious installations to date.
SWR wall-mounted wire systems use terminals suitable for a range of different surfaces — interior timber staircases, masonry walls and outdoor concrete are all compatible. The right terminal and fixing specification depends on your substrate, wall thickness and load requirements. Send us your details at quote stage and we’ll confirm the correct specification for your surface.
Yes. All SWR wire systems are made from marine-grade stainless steel — hard-wearing, corrosion resistant and built for outdoor as well as indoor applications. For coastal locations or poolside use, 316 marine-grade stainless is specified as standard.
No. The wire runs directly between terminals fixed to the wall surface at each end, with intermediate wall fixings along the run if required. There are no floor-fixed posts, which makes wall-mounted systems ideal for retrofits and situations where core-drilling the floor isn’t practical or desirable.
Yes. Wall-mounted wire is frequently used on staircases where the wall is close enough to carry the wire run — particularly on straight staircases with solid masonry or timber walls on both sides. Wire orientation is specified to suit the application and Building Control requirements.
Yes. The terminals are designed to be easy to fit, and the system doesn’t require specialist fabrication skills. Full installation documentation is provided with every order. For projects in the South East, SWR also offers supply-and-install — speak to the team at quote stage.
Send us a sketch, a photo of your staircase, or a set of architect’s drawings. You’ll have a detailed wall-mounted wire balustrade quote within one working day.
