Ready-to-install wire tension kits in AISI 316 stainless steel, suitable for internal and external use across a wide range of applications and environments. Each kit contains everything needed to tension one wire run. All you need is a pair of wire rope cutters and a spanner. Available in multiple lengths and in 4mm and 6mm wire diameters, order by run length, one kit per wire.
Each kit contains the following components, pre-matched and ready to install. One kit tensions one wire run — order one kit per wire in your balustrade.
AISI 316 stainless wire rope in your chosen length and diameter (4mm or 6mm). Corrosion resistant, suitable for internal and external use.
1× pre-swaged rigging screw included per kit — pre-finished end fitting ready to tension.
1× self-fit fork for the opposite wire end. Fits without specialist tooling.
2× metric thread eyebolts with nuts for fixing into metal or masonry substrates.
2× wood thread eyebolts for fixing directly into timber posts or structures.
Tensioning tool, full installation drawings (PDF + DWG), and a printed quick-reference card.
An interactive tool to design your wall-mounted wire system — choose wire orientation, run length, terminal style and top rail, with a fully costed PDF quote to send to your installer or builder.
Used by self-builders, architects and main contractors who want to firm up the spec before talking to our team.
Each of the four systems below is a complete product on its own, designed for a specific application, with its own spec, install method and price band. Pick the one that fits your project.
4MM · DIY-FRIENDLY · EASY TO CUT TO LENGTH
Easy to cut to length, pre-tensioned stainless wire kits for self-builders fitting their own balustrade. Includes wire, tensioners, posts and full installation guide. Quick despatch.
4mm · side-fixed · stair stringers
Stainless wire fixed directly to the wall or stair stringer, with no posts in front of the run. Slimmest visual profile of the four systems and a great retrofit option.
4mm · 100mm centres · post-mounted
Eight to ten parallel stainless wires running between square or round stainless posts. The classic specification, used on the majority of staircase and terrace projects.
4MM · 100MM CENTRES · TOP & BOTTOM RAIL
Vertical stainless wire infill between top and bottom rails. A clean, contemporary alternative to horizontal wire, suited to projects where a vertical line is preferred.
Every wire balustrade we supply is engineered to comply with BS 6180:2011 (barriers in and about buildings) and Approved Document K. Tension calculations are project-specific and signed off before fabrication.

One of SWR’s most ambitious installations to date.
Each kit contains AISI 316 stainless wire rope in your chosen length, 1× pre-swaged rigging screw, 1× self-fit fork, 2× metric thread eyebolts with nuts, and 2× wood thread eyebolts.
A pair of wire rope cutters and a spanner — 10mm for 4mm kits, 17mm for 6mm kits. No specialist tools, no welding equipment, no fabricator required. The kits are supplied ready to install.
Kits are available in multiple lengths to suit different run distances. Order the length that covers your post-to-post run with a small allowance for tensioning. If you’re unsure which length to order, use the configurator or call the team and we’ll advise.
Wire diameter. 4mm wire is the standard specification for most residential balustrade applications. 6mm wire provides additional stiffness and is suited to longer runs or applications where a more substantial wire appearance is preferred. Both use AISI 316 stainless components and the same installation method — just a different spanner size.
The SWR team is available to support self-assembly customers throughout the installation process. Call or email with your kit reference and we’ll talk you through any issues. For projects in the South East, on-site support can also be arranged if needed — speak to the team for availability.
Tell us your run length, wire diameter and fixing substrate and we’ll confirm the right kit and quantity.
