Common questions about modular balustrades

What's the difference between modular and welded balustrades?

Modular systems use standard manufactured components — posts, infill and fixings — assembled on site without welding. Welded systems are bespoke fabrications, usually made off-site. Modular is faster, more consistent and more cost-effective for the majority of residential and commercial projects.

Yes. SWR modular posts are compatible with wire infill, glass panels and perforated stainless panels. The infill is specified at quote stage — tell us your preference and we’ll design the system around it.

Yes. All SWR modular systems are designed to comply with BS 6180 and Approved Document K, covering barrier heights, load ratings and infill spacing. We provide full specification documentation with every order.

No. Modular systems are designed for installation by a competent general contractor — no welder or specialist fabricator required. We supply full installation documentation with every order.

Yes. We offer both base plate fixing (for new concrete or timber decks) and core-fixed post options (for existing slabs where a surface fixing isn’t appropriate). Your quote will specify the right fixing method for your substrate.
