Specialist balustrade systems for wind protection, screening and industrial use

Not every project fits a standard system. SWR’s specialist range covers many purpose-built solutions — wind protection balustrades, protective screens and perforated panel infill — each designed for a specific application where standard wire, glass or modular systems aren’t the right answer. BS 6180 compliant where applicable. Supplied from our South East base, nationwide.

where specialist systems work

Purpose-built systems exposed terraces, industrial settings and architectural applications.

SWR’s specialist systems exist because some projects have requirements that sit outside the standard balustrade brief — a terrace that needs wind protection without losing the view, a commercial site that needs a robust railing fast, a balustrade requiring perforated infill panels. Each system below is a direct answer to one of those requirements.

Exposed Terraces & Roof Gardens

Wind protection balustrade systems for elevated terraces, roof gardens and coastal balconies where wind exposure makes the space unusable without proper screening.

Commercial & Industrial Sites

Railing systems for warehouses, industrial facilities, commercial staircases and anywhere a robust, fast-to-install barrier is needed without the cost of a premium system.

Screening & Safety

Protective screen systems for plant areas, rooftop equipment, machinery guarding and any application where a solid barrier is needed rather than an open infill.

Architectural Feature Balustrades

Perforated panel infill within a stainless modular post frame — a semi-opaque, decorative option for staircases, facades and garden settings where wire or glass isn’t the right aesthetic.

Our Specialist Systems Pick Yours

Each of the systems below is a complete, modular product set designed for a specific application — built to your spec. Pick the one that fits your project.

Wind Protection

GLASS/PANEL INFILL · AISI304/AISI316 · COASTAL GRADE

A balustrade system built specifically to reduce wind exposure for coastal or outdoor spaces without blocking the view or the light. Glass or solid panel infill within a stainless post frame, sized and positioned to act as a wind break where it’s needed most.

Best for roof terraces, coastal balconies, elevated decks, hillside properties and exposed garden terraces.

ClickitUp Glass Balustrades

HEIGHT-ADJUSTABLE · NO VISIBLE TOP RAIL · WIND PROTECTION

The original height-adjustable glass balustrade. A simple press raises the upper glass panel to create instant wind protection — lower it just as easily when the weather improves. Designed and manufactured in Sweden by ErgoSafe, ClickitUp combines glass, aluminium and structural glazing bonding with no visible posts or fixings. Design-protected since 2014. Available for ground-level patios, balconies and as a retrofit inside existing railings.

Best for outdoor hospitality, roof terraces, patios and balconies.

Perforated Panel Systems

STAINLESS/MILD STEEL · PUNCHED PANEL · CUSTOM PATTERNS

Stainless or mild steel panels with a punched perforation pattern, set within SWR’s standard modular post frame. Perforation patterns available in a range of open areas depending on the level of screening required. Powder coat finish available across the full RAL range.

best for architectural staircases, garden screening and commercial facades

Protective Screens

SOLID/SEMI-SOLID INFILL · AISI304/AISI316 · PRIVACY GRADE

Obscure glass to create privacy for both residential and commercial needs. The panels are attached to our modular stainless steel system which can be produced to bespoke dimensions depending on the project requirements.

Best for complementing private spaces.

Common questions about specialist systems

What makes a project suitable for a wind protection system rather than a standard balustrade?

If your outdoor space is exposed to wind — typically an elevated terrace, roof garden, coastal balcony or hillside property — and a standard open balustrade leaves the space uncomfortable or unusable in moderate wind conditions, a wind protection system is worth specifying. The difference is in the infill: rather than wire or open panels, the system uses glass or solid panels positioned to act as a wind break.

Yes. Panel dimensions are bespoke to your post spacing and opening size. Perforation pattern and open area percentage can also be specified to suit your requirements — from a fine pattern with high solid area (more privacy, more wind resistance) to a coarser pattern with a higher open area (more light, more air movement).

Perforated panels: powder coat across the full RAL range, or mill finish. Protective screens: powder coat or stainless. Wind protection systems: satin stainless as standard, AISI304 or AISI316 grade to suit the environment.

Yes. SWR offers supply-and-install for projects. Speak to the team at quote stage and we’ll confirm what’s available for your location and project type.
